Repair of Obstetrical Trauma/Postpartum Pelvic Floor Disorders

Having a baby can be one of the most amazing experiences of a person’s life. However, the extra weight of growing/carrying a baby and the strain of contractions, labor, and birth put the body through many changes in a very short period of time. To accommodate these changes, ligaments and muscles must be stretched and relaxed.

These processes are problematic when the loosened muscles and stretched ligaments can no longer hold organs in place. As a result, new mothers may experience urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic floor pain, and prolapse very easily.

Some patients may also experience wound breakdown of their obstetrical repairs, putting new mothers at risk for lifelong pelvic floor dysfunction.

There are several non-surgical methods that can help prevent and treat minor issues within the pelvic floor, while more severe issues will need to be fixed surgically. Drs. Kimble are widely requested to consult on peripartum pelvic floor problems and injuries for new mothers and mothers who have had long standing obstetrical injuries. Contact the Kimble Center for Intimate Cosmetic Surgery, so our surgeons can help provide their expert advice and curate the best treatment plan for your distinct needs.
