What is Perineoplasty?

Perineoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to repair and enhance the perineum and external organs of the vagina (vulva). The perineum refers to the area between the anus and vagina, which plays a crucial role in supporting the reproductive organs and pelvic floor muscles.
Factors such as childbirth, weight loss, trauma, and other conditions can lead to damage in this area, resulting in loose and overstretched skin around the vaginal opening.
The goal of perineoplasty is to strengthen and tighten the perineum, as well as to narrow the vaginal opening and repair any loose, scarred, or damaged skin at the perineum or base of the vagina. This way, it not only improves functionality and comfort but also enhances the overall appearance of the perineal area.

What Concerns Can be addressed with Perineoplasty?

How Perineoplasty is Performed?

Perineoplasty is typically performed under either local or general anesthesia, depending on the individual’s specific circumstances and the extent of the procedure. Here’s a general overview of how the surgery is performed:

Anesthesia

You will be given either local anesthesia to numb the surgical area or general anesthesia to ensure you are unconscious throughout the procedure.

Incision

Your gynecologist will make an incision at the vaginal opening, carefully accessing the perineal area. Drs. Kimble innovated scalpel-less surgical techniques for perineoplasty.

Tissue removal and muscle repair

Excess skin or scar tissue is removed, and the deeper layers of muscles surrounding the vagina are repaired and strengthened as needed.

Closure

The incision is meticulously closed using self-dissolving sutures, ensuring proper alignment and healing.

The specific techniques employed may vary depending on individual factors and the surgeon’s approach. Drs. Kimble are regarded as surgical artists creating beautiful vaginas (vulvas). The surgeons include perineoplasty as a key component in their popular Mommy Makeover following delivery.
