An Enterocele is a small bowel prolapse that forms when a portion of the small intestine is displaced and presses down on the top of the vagina, causing bulging of the vagina and pressure on the other organs of the pelvic region. Common causes are childbirth, aging and chronic straining from constipation.
Surgical repair involves a transvaginal or laparoscopic procedure through the abdomen where the displaced bowel is put back in place.
